Reddit ads in 2026: what's changed and who should actually buy them
Reddit Ads pay off for practitioner-level SaaS products (developer tools, security, data infrastructure) sold to people who already argue about the category in r/devops or r/netsec. They also need a team willing to run retargeting and keep comments on. That team must judge results over 90 days instead of by Friday's demo count. For that company, Reddit still buys technical attention for a fraction of LinkedIn's price. If your economic buyer is a CFO, or your board scores marketing on last-click demos, put the budget into LinkedIn or Google Search instead.
Results also depend on consistent revenue attribution tracking across channels. It often breaks when three vendors each own a piece.
The platform changed a lot since January 2026. Reddit recommends automated targeting on every new ad group. Native lead-gen forms shut off on September 21, 2026. B2B awareness CPMs on Reddit rose 36.8% year over year in Q1 2026. The measurement gap that made B2B teams nervous in 2024 has narrowed, but it remains.
What Reddit shipped, and what matters for B2B SaaS
Reddit Max campaigns reached general availability in September 2026, after a limited beta that started in January. Max automates targeting, creative rotation, placements, and budget allocation. The September release added asset groups for running separate creative sets per product line inside one campaign. Max carries a $20 daily and $620 lifetime minimum per ad group.
Reddit widened automated targeting in late 2025, and in November changed the logic so automated expansion can combine with custom audiences using OR instead of AND. For a niche B2B category this cuts both ways. It can improve lower-funnel conversion, but it also means your carefully built list of security subreddits can expand into audiences well outside your ICP. Watch qualification rates, not just CPA.
Since the lead-gen form sunset on September 21, 2026, every lead campaign needs Reddit Pixel or CAPI. Set up both, not just the Pixel. Ad blockers and privacy settings routinely suppress browser-based tracking in developer and security communities, the exact audiences this channel targets, so CAPI backstops what the Pixel misses. Teams that were routing native form fills through Zapier into the CRM have to rebuild that workflow around a website form instead.
What it costs now
Reddit still costs roughly a fifth to a quarter of LinkedIn per impression. In Q1 2026, B2B awareness CPMs were $9.33 on Reddit and $42.29 on LinkedIn, even after Reddit's year-over-year jump noted above.
Cost per lead is where the spread gets wide. Niche subreddit clusters consistently produce better qualification precision and lower CPL than broad interest categories. The same platform can cost multiples more or less depending entirely on how the ad group is built. Build around three to five tightly scoped subreddits rather than a handful of broad interest categories, then compare CPL within the same campaign before deciding whether to scale.
We use these budget rules for B2B Reddit programs:
- Commit at least $3,000 to $5,000 per month.
- Allow 90 days before judging results.
- Set the daily budget per ad group at no less than 3x your expected CPA so the campaign can exit learning.
- Launch in two or three tightly related subreddits instead of spreading a $4,000 budget across twenty communities.
These rules concentrate enough spend to generate useful campaign data.
Who should buy
Buy Reddit Ads if your buyer is a developer, sysadmin, security engineer, or data engineer. Many of the strongest B2B cases involve reaching security buyers specifically.
The audience math explains the pattern. People use personal emails on Reddit, so the more your buyer looks like an engineer and the less like an executive, the more of your list you can actually reach.
Two structural choices separate the wins from the money pits. Retargeting over cold prospecting: one digital-signage SaaS client spent more than $10,000 on prospecting and got a handful of free trials and a single lead, then spent $3,800 on retargeting and got 67 sign-ups. Conversation placements over Feed: we default to Conversation placements, and in B2B SaaS spend data they have converted at a far lower CPA.
Organic presence before paid helps too. We have clients spend a few weeks participating in the target subreddits without promoting anything before paid goes live. Reddit threads also show up in AI answers for "X vs Y" and "best X for Y" software queries, so the organic thread you seed before paid may keep working after the campaign ends.
If you're a VP Marketing selling sales or MarTech software, your buyers are on Reddit too, one step removed from engineering. Practitioner marketers in r/marketing and r/PPC are reachable, as are sales reps in r/sales. Expect lower list match rates than you'd get with engineers, since reach falls as buyers look less like engineers. Text ads written like an organic post are the format to test there. Start small in two or three of those subreddits before scaling.
Who should skip it
Reddit lacks native job title and seniority targeting. It also cannot target by company size. LinkedIn does it out of the box.
Skip it if your ACV requires a C-suite economic buyer. Reddit's audience is practitioners and individual contributors. For a practitioner-level ICP, start with Reddit. If ACV is above $50K with an enterprise ABM motion, make LinkedIn primary.
Skip it if the only success metric is same-week demos. Most Reddit conversions take longer than a week to materialize, and a short attribution window won't capture a 90-day sales cycle. Teams that evaluate Reddit the same way they'd evaluate a Google Search campaign, by same-week CPA, will kill a channel that was never built to win that way. Report on a longer click window and judge it against pipeline generated over a full quarter instead.
Skip it if Google Search isn't fixed yet: landing pages don't convert or SQL-level tracking isn't wired. Until those are fixed, Reddit spend is likely to buy cheaper traffic that leaks out the same holes.
And skip it if nobody on your team can answer a comment within the hour. A hostile comment left unanswered sits in front of every viewer and drags down CTR. We set a two-hour reply window on client accounts; if comments land on a founder who's also shipping product, budget for someone else to own it.
Running it inside a coordinated program
Disconnected attribution causes many Reddit programs to fail.
Our day-one attribution setup has four parts:
- Install Pixel plus CAPI, not Pixel alone, because ad blockers often prevent tracking in developer and security communities.
- Add a mandatory free-text "How did you hear about us?" field because self-reported attribution often contradicts attribution software.
- Standardize UTMs and pass them through hidden form fields into HubSpot or Salesforce so the source remains visible when sales takes over.
- Report Reddit-sourced and Reddit-influenced pipeline separately to the board.
Together, these steps keep Reddit activity connected to pipeline and revenue.
If marketing, RevOps, and finance aren't aligned on those pieces, Reddit ends up judged on disconnected metrics, usually last-click. We put the Pixel, CAPI, UTM schema, and CRM fields under one team. A research-stage channel that reaches one engineer early is unlikely to get last-click credit.
Creative has to be made for the room. We push clients toward "See the architecture breakdown" in r/devops instead of "Book a demo," and toward product screenshots over stock imagery. We never run identical creative across communities. Text-only ads that read like an organic post tend to work well in r/devops and r/sales.
We run Reddit and Google together for volume. We add LinkedIn when you need role and account precision, then route Reddit-sourced leads to sales follow-up. Allbound coordination works best with the same ICP audience across every channel, and the same UTM schema and CRM fields throughout.
Run Reddit ads as part of an allbound program with Understory
Reddit is a good channel and a terrible island. Understory runs Reddit alongside paid media on LinkedIn and Google, and Clay-powered outbound triggered by signals like a fresh funding round, the same coordinated approach that took Rivial Security's paid media spend from $20K to $70K monthly and drove RemoFirst's 1,040 opportunities in a single quarter. Our in-house creative group produces the text ads and screenshots technical buyers expect, and writes the comment responses that keep CTR high.
